Ace Hotel London, was the winner of Renovation in Architecture Awards category of European Hotel Design Awards 2014.
Ace Hotel London Shoreditch hangs its hat in London’s most creative, engaged district. A hub for galleries, theatre and design, Shoreditch is home to the Brick Lane Market, landmark creatives and renegade artists from around the world.
An urban boutique hotel capturing the maverick spirit of Shoreditch, the refurbishment of the existing out-dated Crowne Plaza hotel creates Ace Hotel’s first hotel outside of the US, Ace London. They were appointed by Starwood as Executive Architects to implement a design that was to reflect the ‘soul and spirit’ of the Ace brand, whilst most importantly remaining true to the existing building form and creating an ‘Ace Hotel for London’.
A key aspect of the refurbishment was the opening up of the façade in order to bring the building back to the street, with a return to the idea of a traditional ‘high street’. The Ace philosophy for collaboration and the use of traditional local craftsman and artists was implemented throughout and is evident in the use of Crittall, bespoke metalwork and engineering brick to this new exterior.
They worked in collaboration with Universal Design Studios to develop the concept for Atelier Ace, creating an energetic and inspiring hotel, which has revitalized the street and become a ‘thread in the fabric of the neighborhood’.
