Get to know the winners of the AHEAD Americas 2017 awards

The AHEAD Americas 2017 awards is a contest that pursuits to recognise hotel and hospitality projects. The participants are from across the Americas and are evaluated and analysed by renewed hoteliers, architects, interior designer and commentators of the industry. The Americas edition is one of AHEAD’s eight regional award ceremonies and winners from Asia were announced earlier this year, while other divisions include the Middle East & Africa, and Europe. On this edition, only the projects that were completed between September 2015 and December 2016 were included and Design Contract will now present you the winners.

>> Faena Miami Beach

The big winner of the 2017’s edition was the Faena Miami Beach that has received two awards – the Americas Hotel of the Year and Best Resort hotel. With strong coloured contract furniture and vivid patterns, the judges said that this hotel is like a “fantastical playground”.

>> 11 Howard Hotel

The 11 Howard Hotel in New York was submitted to several hospitality projects that made it winning a series of prizes. As a former post office building won the Restoration & Renovation award, its lobby was recognised with the Lobby & Public Spaces award and the Terrace Suite and the Le Coucou restaurant also collected prizes.

>> Arlo SoHo

As a different and unique type of hotel design, the Arlo SoHo is a micro hotel that is located in New York. Regarding their wise way to transform compact spaces, the hotel won the Guestrooms award. Arlo, the brand behind the hotel, won an award too for New Concept.

>> Hotel Criol

The Hotel Criol, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is been being talked because of its restoration of existing structures such as the historic colonial facade and use of local materials and endemic vegetation like huge slatted wooden walls and plenty of endemic vegetation behind. This hospitality project was awarded the Top Urban Hotel – Conversion.

>> Chablé Resort

The Landscape and Outdoor Spaces award went to the Chablé Resort with its luxurious interiors based on historic Mayan architecture and contemporary features and it also boasts a spa set beside a cenote – a sunken water-filled limestone pit. This mix was described by the judges as “magical and mysterious”.

>> South Congress Hotel

Among these stunning design events, we can find the South Congress Hotel, in Austin. This three-storey brick and terracotta boutique hotel received prizes for the bar at the Coachman Hotel in California’s South Lake Tahoe and its visual identity for The Brentwood Hotel in New York.
