Mama Shelter packed its suitcases in the emblematic neighborhood of Santa Teresa, on the heights of Rio de Janeiro. The well-named Mama Rio Santa Teresa is open since mid-January, after a soft opening in December 2016, six months behind its original schedule.
Despite some 28 establishments already operational in Rio, the AccorHotels group does not intend to stop in this way. This is evidenced by two new openings that reinforce the hotel group’s positioning in the high-end and luxury segment.
This hospitality project has 56 rooms, a restaurant with pizzeria, a bar and two meeting rooms. Its design contract blends into the landscape, with two buildings separated by open spaces and patios. It was designed by the architect Jalil Amor, who has mixed playful contract furniture with modern-yet-homely urban interiors.
Mama Shelter promises direct access to downtown and major tourist attractions. It also takes about 40 minutes to reach the international airport by taxi. A double room is currently priced at 264 euros for two nights without breakfasts.
This hotel interior design follows a similar model targeting “creative” travellers by setting up in up-and-coming and arty neighborhoods and offering hotel designs spaces at affordable prices.
